North Face Bike Park Wednesday Evening Program 2019

Calling all 6-12 year old two wheel riders!!  Join us for a 4 week session of learning the ropes of the Bike Park and expanding your abilities!

Details:

Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 P.M.

August Program: August 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th-$65.00

September Program: September 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th-$65.00

Meet at North Face Bike Park, Carbondale CO

Payment Accepted on location.  Card, Check or Cash (in exact amount) accepted.

Program Itinerary:

Week 1:

  • Introductions
  • Basic Bike Park safety and etiquette
  • Building supportive atmosphere using teamwork and encouragement
  • Warm up
  • Action Stance: 
    • Standing up
    • Pedals level
    • Eyes forward, chin over stem
    • Elbows out, shoulders drawn back and down
    • Hips over feet, flat spine
    • Heels down
    • Basic pumping and cornering technique
    • Free play with individual coaching
    • Wrap up

 

Week 2:

  • Re-introductions / safety and etiquette / teamwork
  • Warm up
  • Cornering
    • Brake before the turn
    • Look (turn head) Tip (bike more than body) Turn (hips and knees into direction of travel)
    • Long arm / short arm (do NOT straighten inside arm, demo shoulder orientation and straight arm)
    • Level pedals on berms
    • Use cones as visual cues and to aid line choice
    • Reinforce stance and application to cornering
  • Free Play with individual coaching
  • Strong emphasis on group management and safety as kids move towards jump lines
    • Call your drop
    • No riding up the down line when crowded
    • Wait until the line is clear
    • Be aware and make good choices: no jump is worth getting hurt or hurting another rider
  • Wrap up

 

Week 3:

  • Re-introductions / safety and etiquette / teamwork
  • Warm up
  • Safety emphasis and group management- (see Week 2 notes)
  • Pumping / Jumping technique
    • Crouch (drive down to create range of motion) Press (through the whole transition) Release (to allow bike to move towards rider in the air or over pump roller)
    • Anatomy of a jump / roller
    • Timing of movement
    • Reinforce stance and application to pumping / jumping
  • Free play with individual coaching
  • Wrap up

 

Week 4:

  • Re-introductions / safety and etiquette / teamwork
  • Guided session riding park with a group
  • Free ride time and individual coaching / reinforcement of technique
    • Heavy emphasis on etiquette and safety (preparing kids to use park on their own responsibly)
  • Wrap up and thanks
